May 26, 2015 – PenBay Media announced today that it received the General Services Administration (GSA) Mentor-Protégé of the Year Award during the 2015 GSA Mentor Protégé Awards Ceremony held on May 13 in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes outstanding mentor-protege teams formed under the GSA’s Mentor-Protege program.
“Penobscot Bay Media has benefited greatly from the high-level expertise and guidance from our mentor, SAIC,” said PenBay Media President Ann Yahner. “Their generosity and in-depth mentoring has proven critical in our ability to grow and pursue more opportunities in the Federal arena, especially as a prime contractor.” “During our mentor-protege relationship we have doubled the revenue of the company and added numerous highly skilled employees both in Maine and several other states.”
“We are pleased to see PenBay Media grow, win business, and perform effectively,” said SAIC Sector President Nazzic Keene. “We are proud to help our Protégés develop their business and technical capabilities to successfully compete for prime and subcontract awards. It’s a win for us, for PenBay Media, and the U.S. government.”
The Mentor-Protégé Program, sponsored by GSA’s Office of Small Business Utilization, encourages the pairing of GSA prime contractors with smaller companies, including disadvantaged, women-owned, historically underutilized business zoned, veteran-owned, and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. In so doing, GSA promotes the business development of small businesses and enhances their capability to compete more successfully for federal government contracts and gain access to economic opportunities.
