Union Hall, VA, September 20, 2022 – The National Veteran Small Business Coalition (NVSBC) named PenBay’s President and CEO, Robert Santmyer, as the 2022 recipient of its annual Gordon H. Mansfield Award. This award recognizes individuals who own and operate a successful small business, providing employment opportunities to veterans and who give back to the veteran community in a substantial and continuous way.
Mr. Santmyer was recognized at the NVSBC’s Veteran GovCon Awards Gala on September 13, 2022, where he received the award from the NVSBC’s Executive Director Mr. Scott Jensen and thanked the members of the NVSBC Board of Directors for this distinguished award. He emphasized his commitment as a veteran to his oath to support the United States for a lifetime, and the value of hiring service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.
“For those that know me, you know I am a humble person, but I am also a passionate person. I care deeply about the veteran small business community – a community I am proud to be part of and proud to represent.”– Mr. Robert Santmyer, President & CEO of PenBay Technology Group
He was nominated for the award by PenBay’s own management team, who highlighted his commitment to employees through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, his support for veteran employment and transition from military life, and his active involvement in multiple organizations advocating for veteran-owned companies. When an important veteran-focused federal contracting mechanism was in jeopardy in 2021, Mr. Santmyer and his team took initiative to lead an Industry Group to provide feedback to the government about the impact for veteran-owned small businesses. Through these efforts, including Congressional letters, conversations with federal government leadership, and a position paper summarizing these concerns, the government agreed to retain the contracting mechanism.
